Since 2002 I am often working in collaboration with other artists and architects, using the internet to coordinate our projects and employing websites as a tool to create visibility for communities http://www.lairesse.con-gress.net, to distribute knowledge and to link to like-minded initiatives.
During 2004/2005 I co-organized and curated in the project space Public Space With A Roof an artist-run space in Amsterdam.
Departing from socially engaged art-practices I am more and more interested in the potential of opening “speculative spaces” through artistic thinking, experiencing the internet once again as a valuable tool to re-negotiate contexts and relations, to speculate about the making of and distribution of knowledge, touching upon concepts such as “university”, “access”, “in-/exclusion” and the making of a “public sphere”.
An interesting example for such endeavors I consider the chat-theatre initiated by M7, an Argentinean architecture collective which stages conflicts originating in local public spaces on the internet.
Together with m7 and others I am resident of the Blue House – a residency of the mind, initiated by Jeanne van Heeswijk and Hervé Paraponaris, which is dedicated to develop and research alternative ways of community-forming.
I conduct the Thinktank 0.1 – A groupware research and development project since 2005 which questions values, methods and principles developed in self-organized contexts and within socially engaged practices and their possible transfer into online environments.
